Our 'Net' is a tray made of red sandalwood/Zitan and black wood/Wumu.

The size: L19.2cm x W12.7cm x H1.9cm.

The frame and the surface are made of Indian red sandalwood/Zitan.

Red sandalwood has historically been valued in China, particularly during the Qing Dynasty periods, and is referred to in Chinese as 'Zitan(紫檀) and spelt tzu-t'an by earlier western authors when they introduced classical Chinese hardwood furniture to the west.

An exquisite chair made of red sandalwood can be seen today in China's Forbidden City in Beijing, inside the Hall of Supreme Harmony, and once used by the emperors of the Qing Dynasty.

Due to its slow growth and rarity, things made of 'Zitan' is rare and expensive. It has been one of the most prized woods for millennia.

The condition of the tray is perfect. There is no cracking nor mending on the wood.

Fantastic design.

The surface is hand-weaved with thin red sandalwood/Zitan strips.

It is common to see weaved leather, bamboo or cane. But we rarely can see any weaved hardwood.

The hardness of red sandalwood/Zitan is very high. To cut it into very thin strips and weave them are extremely difficult and time-costing. This needs very skilled craftsmanship.

The manufacturing is not easy, but the result is great.

The surface of this tray looks astonishingly beautiful.

Completely handmade.

All the details have been treated with great carefulness.

Characteristic patterns appears on some parts of the wood. It is artwork of the nature.

The bottom part is made of a whole piece of Wu Mu (乌木 in Chinese), which means Black Wood.

The Black Wood is semi-fossilised Phoebe zhennan, which is  a large species of tree, up to 30 metres tall.

In the past, wood from Phoebe zhennan was so valuable that only royal families could afford their use. Notably, whole logs of Phoebe zhennan wood were used to create pillars for the Forbidden City.

The wood of Phoebe zhennan is particularly valuable when has become semi-fossilised, and is then referred to as 乌木 Wu Mu, or "Black Wood". The price on the 2012 market could be as high as over $10,000 per cubic meter.

This piece of Wu Mu has a very pleasant herbal and floral scent. The scent is from the wood and will never disappear.

Perfect size to put your favourite precious things.

It looks gorgeous with any other colours.

We only make special things that can last!
